Forest area

Barren /unculturable waste land

Area under non-agricultural use

Permanent Pasture and grazing

Culturable waste land

Current Fallow

A. Identify whether the land use under above given categories have increased or decreased over the years.

B. Identify the reasons for increase or decrease in land use pattern in given categories.

C. Keep the answers brief and to the point.

Dear Student,
The land use pattern has changed in several ways and the changes have been addressed below -

Forest Area - The use of forest area has declined only by a few percentages. This indicates that the forests remained as used as they were earlier. But there is a decrease in the forest cover.

Barren/unculturable waste land - Their use has decreased over time because of the changes in the economic structures as the pressure on the land has increased due to the shift on agricultural and non-agricultural activities.

Area under non-agricultural use - The land-use activity has been on an increase due to the expansion of the industrial sector, service sector, related infrastructure, urban areas, etc.

Permanent Pasture and grazing - Their use has increased because of the more systematic use of pasture lands under the panchayats and government.

Culturable waste land - The land's use has decreased due to the pressure of agricultural and non-agricultural activities.

Current Fallow - The land use has declined due to an increase in agricultural activities and agricultural technologies. Crops are now sown across the year, thus decreasing the fallow.
