2) Explain the 3R's briefly.

Reuse of items reduces the amount of waste generation. For example- When we discard any paper bags after its condition become poor & it becomes useless for us, it can be recycled into a new paper bag thereby reducing the waste generation. Secondly, if we use handkerchief instead of tissue paper for cleaning hand then it reduces waste generation to a large extent as handkerchief can be reused after washing.

3R strategy is an approach to reduce the amount of solid waste.Its full form is Reduce, Reuse & Recycle. Reducing means avoiding the use of materials which increases the solid waste. Reuse means repeated use of items without any side effects and recycling means use of waste itself as a resource. According to this strategy, one should avoid the use of non- recyclable substance (like polythene), which are harmful for environment & organisms. Use of materials such as paper should be preferred as they can be reused & recycled. Also they don't cause any harm to the environment when they are disposed off. Materials like glass, some plastics can be recycled on heating and get easily converted into different products like toys, containers which can be reused again.
