Dear student,

The answers are as follows:
  1. The narrator goes to 46 Marconi Street in search of her mother’s belongings. After a long time, she found herself to be curious about the things she was not eager about when her mother coaxed her.
  2. The narrator had initially thought that she was mistaken in coming to the right address. The fleeting glimpse of Mrs Dorling had not been enough to ascertain it really was her. She thought she might have rung the wrong bell but when she saw Mrs Dorling wearing her mother's green knitted cardigan, she knew she had come to the right address. The wooden buttons were rather pale from washing but she was sure it was her mother's cardigan and when Mrs Dorling realised this, she half hid herself behind the door. The narrator knew she had come to the right address.
  3. Mrs. Dorling is an impolite woman who took all of the narrator's mother's possessions and did not let the narrator come inside her house. She pretended to not recognize her, when in reality she did. Her behaviour is not at all justified.
  4. The author knew the room because the room was filled with things that were familiar to the author. But at the same time, there was a strangeness in that familiarity. The way the things were arranged and put together disoriented the author. Hence, she was overwhelmed  by contradictory feelings.
