2 cross roads , each of width 5 m , run at right angles through the centre of a rectangularpark of length 70 m and breadth 45 m and parallel to its sides.Find theareas of the roads. Also find the cost of constructing the roads at the rate of Rs 343 per sq. m.

Let ABCD be the rectangular park then EFGH and IJKL are the two rectangular roads with width 5 m.

⇒ EH = MN = OP = FG = IL = MP = ON = JK = 5 m

and AD = EF = HG = BC = 70 m

and AB = IJ = LK = DC = 45 m

Now area of roads = Area of EFGH + Area of IJKL -  Area of MNOP

= (70 × 5 + 45 × 5 – 5 × 5) m2

= (350 + 225 – 25) m2

= 550 m2

Again, it is given that  cost of constructing the roads = Rs 343 per m2.

Therefore, cost of constructing 550 m2 area of the roads = Rs 343 × 550 = Rs 188650

step 1    name the crossrods

step 2    write the formula for the area of rectangle i.e. is    length  x    breadth

[   let me name thefirst crossroads as  a b c d  ]

step 3     length is same oflength of the rectangle i.e 70mand the breadth is 5m

step 4     multiply them  answer will be  350 square m

step 5     now le tme name it p q r s now thelength would be 40m and widtth would be 5 m

step 6      multiply them result would be 200square m

step 7      you will notice a square  formed by those crossroads is coming twice so we will find its area

step  8     aea of square side x side i.e. is 5m x 5m which is 25 square m

step 9       we will addthe area of a b c d and p q r s

step 10    after adding we will surtact the rea of squarefom it

step 11   now whatever result comes we will multiply it with the rate to get the amount of money
