A block of mass 12 kg is held at rest against a vertical wall as shown in figure. If the coefficient of friction of the wall is u=0.5 then what will be the minimum force required?
Solution
Mass of block ( m ) = 12 Kg
Coefficient of friction ( μ ) = 0.5
Acceleration due to gravity (g) = 10 m/s2
According to diagram , Block is balanced by equal and opposite forces
∴ F=N
f=mg
We know , fmax = μN
∴ mg=μF
F=mg/μ
F= 12 x 10 / 0.5
F = 240 N
