a bus is moving with a speed of 10m/s on a straight road. a scooterist wishes to overtake the bus in 100 sec. if the bus is at a distance of 1 k from the scooterist , with what speed the scooterist chase the bus?

Can u tell why u took relative speed of scooter wrt bus to be 10m/s?

By my view it's wrong Bcz relative velocity and speed of bus how can be the same

Here it is

why we dont write like v=Vb-Vs

The speed of vehicle is 20m/s
  • -3
20 metre per sec

Very easy question if bus speed is 10 m/s then after 100 s it is at 1000 m so scooter have to cover 2000 m (because 1000 m was traveled by bus and 1000 m is separation between them) SPEED = Distance time V = 2000 100 V = 20 m/s

Let v, be the velocity of the scooter, the distance between the scooter and the bus = 1000 m, The velocity of the bus = 10 ms-1 Time taken to overtake = 100 s Relative velocity of the scooter with respect to the bus = (vs-10) :. 1000/(vs-10) = 100s = vs = 20 ms-1-on-in-100

Why we don't write like this V=Vb-Vs

SANJAY DJEABALAN

Acc. to relative velocity
t= d/v-10
100=1000/v-10
1=10/v-10
v-10 = 10
v=20m/s
