“A compass needle points approximately in the North- South direction”. Explain why? (1 MARK)
PLEASE ANSWER FAST!!!!!!!!!

Dear Student,
as from the above image,  we will try to understand  why compass needle north pole  points approximately in geographical north direction.

In the digram we can see the needle with its white colur end showing north pole and its red colour end showing south pole,
the north pole of needle is getting attraced  approximately to the north pole of geographical north because  our earth is a magnet in itself and its   magnetic south pole lies near to the geogrphical north pole (** In the diagram we generally  name the magnetic south pole of earth as north magnetic pole because of its location near geographical north , which creates a little confusion but the magnetic field lines of earth confirm us the fact, as magnetic filed lines goes into the magnetic from magnetic south pole , which we can see in our diagram happening near the geographical north pole).
similarly we can understand that near the geographical south pole  , as magnetic field lines are  coming out of the magnetic pole , it should be a mangetic north pole  but again due to it's location near the geographical south pole it named as south magnetic pole*.
hence south pole of compass needle (the red end) is getting attraced approximately towards the geographical south.

Hope this helps!

Regards.

When it comes to magnets, opposites attract. This fact means that the north end of a magnet in a compass is attracted to the south magnetic pole, which lies close to the geographic north pole
