. A piece of land is240 m long and 120 m wide, has two roads in its centre of equal width 2.5 m. One road is parallel to length and other is parallel to its width. Find the area of roads and also find the cost of planting the grass at the rate of    Rs. 10 per sq.m

Area of road EFGH = EF × FG=240 × 2.5 = 600 m2Area of road  KLMN = KL ×LM=2.5 × 120=300 m2Area of square PQRS = side2 = 2.52 = 6.25 m2Now, area of cross roads = Area of road EFGH + Area of road  KLMN - Area of square PQRS=600 + 300 - 6.25=893.75 m2Area of the land where the grass is to be planted = area of ABCD - area of cross roads=AB×BC - 893.75=240×120 - 893.75=28800-893.75=27906.25 m2Cost of planting the grass in 1 m2 area = Rs 10Cost of planting the grass in 27906.25 m2 area = Rs 10 × 27906.25 = Rs 279062.50
