A pole fixed on the ground is leaning away from the vertical. When the Sun is directly overhead, the lenght of its shadow is 7.5 m. An observer standing 30 m away from the base of the pole in the direction of the shadow, measures the angle of elevation of the toop of the pole to be 30o. Find the lengh of the pole. Ignore the height of the observer.

let the length of the pole be AB = m.

when the Sun is directly overhead , length of its shadow is BC = 7.5 m.

and from a point 30 m away from the base of the pole angle of elevation of top of the pole is 30 deg

 let D be the observing point.

therefore BD = 30 m

CD = BD - BC = 30-7.5 = 22.5 m

now in the right angle triangle ACD,

now in the right angle triangle ACB;

thus the length of the pole is 15 m.
