A ray of light PQ is incident at an angle of 60 degree on the face of AB of prism of angle 30 degree . The ray emerging out of the prism makes an angle of 30 degree with the incident ray. Show that the emergent ray is perpendicular to the face BC through which it emerges. Also calculate the refrractive index of the prism material.?plz reply soon.

Given that:

Angle of prism ,A= 30o

Angle of incidence, = 60o

Angle of deviation   = 30o

  • 31

i+e=delta + A

e=0

=> emergent ray is along the normal so it is perpendicular to the face BC

refractive index= sin(delta + r1 + r2)/sin(r1 + r2)

on subs we get

mu = root(3)
