The flavor of a food always comes with its smell. Thus taste is intimately connected with the smell of the food. When we eat something the smell of that object reaches to the brain through olfactory nerves and we get the complete satisfying taste of that food. Both the senses of taste and smell act together to satisfy us. When the nostrils remain closed smell cannot enter inside. As a result we get the taste of the food through taste buds but it seems incomplete.
