Dear student,

Thambi understood the importance of education and tried his best to impart this lesson to his sister Bama. He believed that good education was of utmost importance in a world which was divided by caste, creed and religion. Thambi thought practically and he was sensible enough to understand that the key to empowerment of the Dalits was education. He tried Bama understand that they could change their fate and stop being treated poorly by the people of upper class only if they were educated. The injustice that they received at the hands of the upper class people was disturbing for Bama and thus, it became Thambi's duty as an elder brother to help her escape the situation.
