It changes the direction of effort.4.It can act as a speed multiplier.explanation of point 2while ridding a bicycle , we apply an effort to the pedal and thus the wheel (rear wheel) starts rotation. Here we apply the force (effort) on the pedal, And with the help of the chain (that connects the pedal with rear wheel) , the wheel starts rotating.Thus here the point of application of effort can be changed, instead of the rear wheel we are applying effort on pedal, but due to the connection of the chain, the wheel starts rotating.explanation of point 3using a simple pulley, one can lift a bucket full of water from a well, by applying a force (effort) in downward direction, whereas without a pulley, if someone wants to take out the bucket, he needs to tie the bucket with a rope and then need to pull it in upward direction. so by applying a simple pulley one can change the direction of effort.
