Cell cycle cell division

Solution:

The correct option is (3).
Interphase is the most important stage of cell cycle. The cell stays in the interphase for maximum periods. During this phase the cell prepares itself for division. The cell undergoes cell growth and replication during this phase. It has three phases- G1, S and G2
  • During the G1 phase the cell continues to grow but there is no DNA replicate.
  • During the S phase the DNA of the cell replicates. Hence a rise in the graph of nuclear DNA amount.
  • During the G2 phase the RNA, proteins and other macromolecules required for mitotic division are produced by the cell. But there is no replication of DNA. Hence, the graph does not show rise. Rather the DNA amount is at the same level as it was in S phase.
