Compare and contrast between: 
1.  Southern plateaus and Northern plains of India 

1. The northern plains are flat plains at sea level. The southern plateau is elevated with an average height of 600 metres.
2. The northern plains are composed of alluvial soil. The souther plateau is composed of black and red soil.
3. The northern plains were formed from the silt deposited by rivers originating in the Himalayas. Hence, they are less than 50 million years old as the Himalayas were formed about 50 millions years ago. The souther plateau is much older.
4. The northern plains have perennial rivers that originate in the Himalayas. Most rivers of the souther plateau are seasonal.
5. The northern plains are much more densely populated than the souther plateau.
