Compare and contrast the characteristics of Mrs. S and Mrs. Dorling

Mrs. S was a simple, trustworthy woman who allowed Mrs. Dorling to take their things so that they would not be destroyed in the war. She was good natured and could not think of insulting anyone.

Mrs. Dorling wanted to save the precious things of Mrs. S. She took them with her and stored them in her house. Over the years, these things became a part and parcel of her life. When Mrs. S's daughter came back asking about the things, Mrs. Dorling was disconcerted. She had never imagined anyone would ever come back. She was afraid that she will have to return the things. Thus, she refused to acknowledge the narrator and did not allow her to enter the house. She was rude and discourteous.
