Speed is simply defined as the rate at which an object covers a given distance in a particular period of time.

Mathematically, it is represented as

speed (s) = distance (d)/time (t)

say, for example, if an object travelled 100 meters in 10 seconds then its speed would be

s = 100/10 = 10 m/s
