describe briefly 1 biological & 1physical method of conversion of  nitrogen to form nitrities& nitrates

  • Rhizobium, is found in the root nodules of leguminous plants like pulses. It lives in symbiotic association with plants and fixes the atmospheric nitrogen in leguminous plants. It converts the atmospheric nitrogen into absorbable forms such as nitrate and nitrite so that plants can take them up from the soil. This is the biological method of fixng atmospheric nitrogen.
  • During lightening, the high temperatures and pressures created in the air convert nitrogen into oxides of nitrogen. These oxides dissolve in water to give nitric and nitrous acids (HNO3 and HNO2 respectively which give the nitrate and the nitrite ion) and fall on land along with rain. These are then utilised by various lifeforms.

There are methods that change atmospheric nitrogen into usable forms through the process of nitrogen fixation. Two such methods are given below.

[1]. During lightning and thunder, the high temperature and pressure in the air convert atmospheric nitrogen into oxides of nitrogen that can dissolve in water to produce nitric and nitrous acids. These fall along with rain.

[2]. Certain forms of bacteria are able to convert atmospheric nitrogen into usable forms such as nitrates and nitrites. Such nitrogen fixing bacteria are commonly found in the roots of legumes (plants of pulses) inside special structures called root nodules.

BIOLOGICAL MEAN :

when a nitrifying bacteria fixes nitrogen in plant and when the plant die it gives nitrogen.

PHYSICAL MEAN :

it is caused when their is lightning and rain the NO2 mixs with rain and it goes into soil so it gives nitrogen.
