describe briefly an experiment to prove the first law, second law and third law of simple pendulum

The three laws of simple pendulum are:
  • Time period (T) is proportional to the length of the string (l).
  • Time period (T) has no dependence on the amplitude of the oscillation of the pendulum.
  • Time period (T) has no dependence on the mass of the bob.
Experiments to prove these laws,
  1. Take a bob. Tie it with strings of  different length(l). Take at least 3 such strings. Measure the time period (T) of the pendulum in each case. Plot log(T) vs log(l). Fit a straight line. Find out the slope. It should be 12.
  2. With a bob and a string make a simple pendulum. Start the oscillation with different amplitudes and measure the time periods. Plot Time period vs amplitude. You will get a straight line parallel to amplitude axis.
  3. Use the same string for making pendulums with bobs of different mass. Measure the time periods. Plot Time period vs mass of the bob. You will get a straight line parallel to mass of the bob axis.
