Functions of the Heart
Pumping blood is the chief and only function of the heart! Freshly oxygenated blood from the lungs enter the heart which is then pumped out to the rest of the body. After delivering oxygen to all tissues, the de-oxygenated blood returns to the heart, which the heart sends back to the lungs to get re-charged with oxygen. The heart functions as the central point collection and dispatch for blood from the lungs to the rest of the body and vice versa. How it does so is an interesting study. The mechanism of how the heart pumps blood throughout the body is being enumerated as follows:-

The function of heart is to pump blood in our body . The heart is made up of a soft muscle called cardiac muscle . The heart has 4 chambers . Upper two chambers are called atria or auricle and the lower two chambers are called ventricles . On the left side of the heart are left atrium and left ventricle . On the right side of the heart are right atrium and right ventricle . Oxygenated blood from lungs are transported to the heart by pulmonary vein . The top left side of left atrium is connected with pulmonary vein . It brings the oxgenated blood to the left atrium . The left atrium is connected to the left ventricle . It transports the oxygenated blood to the left ventricle . The upper side of left ventricle is connected with pulmonary artery and transports it to all the body cells . After the use of oxygen by the body cells , the blood becomes deoxygenated . The deoxygenated blood goes into the heart through vena cava . It is connected with right atrium and transports the blood to right atrium . Blood from right atrium goes to right ventricle . The right ventricle is connected with aorta . It transpors the deoxygenated to aorta . Then the aorta transports the deoxygenated blood to the lungs
