describe the humour and irony in the poem? urgent answer

Vikram Seth's poems are often satirical, full of humour and irony. They always send out a message, put to display a reality of life and express the processes of his mind.In the poem there are several instances of irony and humour. Some of them have been listed below:

-- the falling of the king's crown because of the silly mistake of constructing the arch a little low.

--the so called "just and placid" king had a frown upon his face for such a small thing as falling of the crown. Even if it was a matter of respect, for a king who is described as tranquil and good-tempered, the reaction was much exaggerated and too intense.

--the silliness of the king is put to full display where he moves from person to person while deciding who should be hanged. He, for a moment, even considers to hang the arch.

--the "wisest" man that was brought before the king for consultation is an old, crippled man who was considered wise only because he was the oldest of all in the city. The defining of "wise" is hilarious and quite baseless. This is satirical as well and can be seen as a comment on the belief that the old are always wise, which might not necessarily be true.

--the idea of the king to conduct the hanging without determining who might actually be guilty for this oh-so-grand crime as it was deemed right to hang somebody, anybody in the given situation. Again it can be seen as satirical.

--the killing of the king by "Royal decree" is in itself hilarious. Above that the shouting of ‘Long live the King!’ to applaud the king's 'justice' though the king had been hanged. This is very humorous and ironical.

--the strange and silly ritual of having the next person who enters the city decide who the next king would be. It is again satirical( political satire).

--making a melon the king.

--the people saying that it does not matter to them who the king is or what he wants. They are happy if the king does not bother them. This is like the ultimate irony. The king had thought about the immediate hanging because he felt that the "nation" needed it to take place. However, had he not bothered so much, he would have been alive and all would still have carried on with their lives as usual.
