'development is leading to deterioration of the environment' give your views for or against this statement

Dear student

The following question tests your creativity and should be attempted on your own. However, here are a few useful hints.

For your convenience, points have been given on both for and against the statement: "development is leading to deterioration of the environment"

For:

- Nothing good comes without paying a hefty price for it.
- For our own development, we are sacrificing our environment.
- After the industrial revolution, air and water pollution has become a major problem.
- In rapidly developing countries like India and China, air pollution is a major problem.
- Extreme levels of pollution can physically affect our body, as can be seen in children who are born with deformities.
- Water pollution has caused several species of fish to become extinct.
- If we do not stop this meaningless destruction of the environment, we will surely kill ourselves in the name of development.

Against:

- Whilst it is true that development has adversely affected our environment, it has also helped us in finding solutions to many of our problems.
- With the help of technology, we are now able to regulate the amount of pollutants we release into the air.
- We have also created machines that convert polluted air into clean air.
- Without development, we would not be able to treat sewage water and sea water, and change it into drinking water.
- Development in the field of science and medicine is also why the average human life span has greatly increased.
- Even animal conservation has benefited greatly through scientific development.
- We may not be able to see it, but development has improved our living conditions, and will continue to do so in the coming years.
