| 1 During transcription, only one of the two DNA strands is copied. This is called the template strand because it acts as a template for the mRNA that is being assembled by the ribosomes. The sequence of the mRNA is complementary to the sequence of the template strand. For example, a cytosine on the DNA template strand pairs with a guanine on the mRNA strand, and an adenine pairs with a uracil. 2 Template strand is that strand which has the sequence complementary to that of the newly transcribed mRNA. 3 The direction of this strand is 3'-5'. 4 This is also called as the antisense strand. | 1The non-template strand is known as the coding strand. VNTR- Variable number of tandem repeats is used as probes to find the diversity of genome sequences or to distinguish between two people. These are small DNA sequence arranged tandemly in many copy numbers. The copy number varies from chromosome to chromosome in an individual. The numbers of repeats show a high degree of polymorphism. That is why used as a probe to distinguish between two people, to find out the criminals or to confirm parents of a child.
