do breeds belong to the same species. if so what is the difference between a breed and a species ?

Yes breeds belong to the same species. Breed is a group of individuals within a species which shows distinctive features. Mostly they have been carefully selected and obtained. But breeds occur naturally as well because of geographical or inbreeding mechanisms.
