Dodder plants have specialized roots called parasitic roots. Why?

Dodder plant has no leaves or green stems. It does not carry out photosynthesis. Hence it develops specialized parasitic roots called haustoria that help in absorbing nutrition from host plants. These roots directly get attached top host stem and pulls out prepared food like a syringe.
