Dear Student,

"Every litre of waste water discharged by our industry pollutes eight times the quantity of freshwater"

a. It is true one of the major causes of water pollution is the waste discharged from the industries.
b. Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies , that degrades rivers , lakes by discharge of chemical, physical  or any other harmful substances.
c.Water bodies in India today, including small rivers have become excessively polluted turning into toxic streams.
d. It rather becomes the reason for water borne diseases impacting our overall health as well as the marine life.
e. Thus, it is imperative that certain corrective measures must be taken to contain water pollution.

i. Factories and industries must be built away from water bodies.
ii.To prevent water pollution, industries must develop ash pond management, must install water recycling plant.
iii. We must encourage the practise of rain water harvesting .
iv. Industries must have water treatment plants.

The treatment of industrial effluents is done in the following manner:
  • Firstly, there is a primary treatment which involves stages like screening, grinding, Then sedimentation technique is used to remove solid waste, filtration and ultra filtration is used.
  • Biological process is also used for treatment as a secondary process.
  • There is also a tertiary treatment which includes physical, biological processes involving recycling of wastewater.
