Evolution cannot be equated with progress . Explain

Evolution is simply the generation of diversity and the shaping of the diversity by environmental selection. The only progressive trend in evolution seems to be that more and more complex body designs have emerged over time. However, again, it is not as if the older designs are inefficient. So many of the older and simpler designs still survive. eg: one of the simplest life forms – bacteria – inhabit the most inhospitable habitats like hot springs, deep-sea thermal vents and the ice in Antarctica. Thus evolution cant be equated with progress in life conditions.

(i) Evolution is not always equated with progress because evolution simply generates diversity, and this diversity helps in better adaptation and survival.

(ii) Evolution creates complex body designs, but this does not imply that simpler forms are inefficient. For example, bacteria having simple organisation are more capable of surviving in extreme environments than organisms with complex body designs.

(iii) Human beings and chimpanzees have both evolved from a common primate ancestor, but there is no progress associated with the evolution of chimpanzees.

(iv) Human beings should not be considered as the highest evolved species or the climax species. They are only a branch of evolution.

Evolution is simply the generation of diversity and the shaping of the diversity by environmental selection. Species adapt to the conditions available in their environment. Some older and simple species live on quite effectively. The only progressive trend in evolution seems to be that more and more complex body designs have emerged over time. In fact, one of the simplest life forms like bacteria inhabit the most inhospitable habitats like hot springs, deep-sea thermal vents and the ice in Antarctica. This is the reason why evolution in not equated with progress. Hope this helps, All the best!!

Evolution cannot be equated with progress.A specie do not get eliminated to give rise to a new one. Also the newly generated species are in no way better than the old one. It is just that natural selection and genetric drift have lead to the formation of the population that cannot reproduce with the original one. And also u can add those points given above... hope this helps...

Evolution cannot be equated with progress. *Evolution is not exactly taking place from lower organisms to higher organisms but it can be related to the fact that higher and complex body forms evolved even when the low and simple forms are still existing. An individual also plays an important role in the evolutionary process. An individual contributes its specific genes into the gene pool of the population during transferring its genetic variations to its offspring. *These variations are carried on to successive generations by natural selection. *If these genetic variations get accumulated over a period of time, alter the individuals of the subgroup and later give rise to new species.

Evolution cannot be equated with "progress" . it seems to have just given rise to more complex body designs. For example bacteria still flourish in spite of a very simple body design while dinosaurs did not survive in spite having very complex body design. Thus evolution is simply the generation of diversity and shaping of diversity by environmental selections which can be seen over the passing of time.

Evolution should not be equated with progress. In fact, there is no real 'progress' in the idea of evolution. ... In other words, human beings are not the pinnacle of evolution, but simply yet another species in the teeming spectrum of life.

Evolution cannot be equated with progress because evolution is the gradual change which takes place in primitive organism over million of years where as progress means development of any organism which is better than prexesting ones .whenever evolution takes place it is not necessary that some progress will also take place .the new organisms are not always better than prexesting ones . The simplicity of organism changes to complex body desing .For example bacteria is the most primitive organism on earth it can tolerate extreme temperature where as other cannot . If we remove any of the organism from the earth then our ecological balance might be disturb
