12. If the side of a rhombus is 10 cm and one diagonal is 16 cm. then find the area of the rhombus.

Let's take take triangle AOB of rhombus ABCD,
(with Pythagoras's theorem), a2+b2=c2
                                              82 (half of the diagonal of 16 cm) + b= 102
                                              b= 100 - 64 = 36
                                    Therefore b = sqrt (36) = 6 cm
Therefore the second diagonal = 12 cm ( 6+6 cm)
area of a rhombus = 1/2 * diagonal 1 * diagonal 2
                                  1/2 * 16 * 12
             Therefore   :   1/2 * 8 * 12 = 96 cm2
