Plants produce starch from carbon dioxide by the process of photosynthesis.


Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants synthesize their own food using carbon dioxide and water in the presence of sunlight. The process occurs in the chloroplast present in the green parts of the plant. As chloroplasts have a green pigment called chlorophyll. This pigment captures the sun’s light energy and converts it into chemical energy.

As a result of this process, carbohydrate is formed and oxygen is released. Carbohydrates provide plants energy to carry out metabolic work.
