explain MOLARITY, MOLALITY and NORMALITY in DETAIL.?

Molarity (M)-  It is the number of moles in 1L of the solution.

M= No. of moles of solute/ Volume of solution in L

No. of moles of solute= Weight of solute/mol. mass of solute

Molality (m)- It is the number of moles in 1Kg of solvent.

m= no.of moles of solute/mass of solvente in kg

First of all ... molaritly,

molarity

and

normality

have something in common .... they are

Concentrations

and in chemistry concentration is a measure of how much of a given substance there is mixed with another substance.

to understand molarity, molartiy and normality .... you must understand Moles ....

moles :- moles in short is amount of substance .... in long ... requires far more attention and i am to sleepy for that lol

Molarity:- Molarity in Formula wise is = Moles/volumes (units = mol/l) or moles per litre.

so in respect you can say it is the amount of substance in a specified volume ...

example :- 2moles of dissolved particles/4liters of liquid = a solution of 0.5 moles/litre or (mol/l)

molarity is by far the most commonly used measure for concentration, particularly for dilute aqueous solutions.

Molality :- units(mol/kg) or moles per kilogram.

molality is the numbers of moles of a given substance per kilogram of solvent(not solution)

same as molarity but instead of solutions per litre ... is replaced with solvent per kilogram .... same theory .

its the number of moles per kilogram.

finally normality :- Firstly we have to understand that salts in solution dissociate into distict reactive species, Normality accounts for any discrepancy between the concentrations of the various ionic species in a solution. For example, in a salt such as MgCl2, there are two moles of Cl- for every mole of Mg+, so the concentration of Cl- is said to be 2 N compared to Mg+ which is 1 N

Molarity Is Defined As The Number Of Solute Present In 1 Litre Volume Of Solution Is Called Molarity.Units Of Molarity Is Moles/Litre.

Molarity =Mass Of Solute Whole Divided B yMolar Mass Of Solute X 1/Volume Of Solute In Litre.

Molality Is Defined As The Number Of Moles Of Solute Present In 1 Kg Weight Of Solvent.Units Of Molality Is Moles/Kilogram.

Molality=Mass Of Solute Whole Divided By Molar Mass Of Solute x 1 By Volume Of Solvent In Kg.

I Hope You Would Understood The Concept.

Molarity

Molarity (M) is defined as the number of moles of solute perliterof solution.

molarity = moles of solute / liters of solution

Molality

Molality (m) is defined as the number of moles of solute perkilogramof solvent.

molality = moles of solute / kilograms of solvent

Although their spellings are similar, molarity and molality cannot be interchanged. Compare the molar and molal volumes of 1 mol of solute dissolved in CCl4(d= 1.59 g / mL)By definition, a 1 M solution would contain 1 mol of solute inexactly1.00 L of CCl4, and a 1msolution would contain 1 mol of solute in 629 mL of CCl4. 1 kg of CCl4x (1000 g / 1 kg) x (mL / 1.59 g) = 629 mL CCl4

Normality

Normality (N) is another ratio that relates the amount of solute to the total volume of solution. It is defined as the number ofequivalentsper liter of solution:

normality = number of equivalents / 1 L of solution

There is a very simple relationship between normality and molarity:N=nï½ M(wherenis an integer)

For an acid solution,nis the number of H+provided by a formula unit of acid.example:A 3 M H2SO4solution is the same as a 6 N H2SO4solution.For a basic solution,nis the number of OH-provided by a formula unit of base.example:A 1 M Ca(OH)2solution is the same as a 2N Ca(OH)2solution.

Remember! The normality of a solution is NEVER less than the molarity.
