explain role played by politics in religion

Dear Student,

a. It is true that ideals and ideas from religion play an important role in Politics. In fact, Mahatma Gandhi believed that every religion preaches and propagates same ethical values and must guide the political actions of the politicians in the service of the people. He viewed religion and politics inseparable where the former brings a sense of morality in politics.
b. However, today religion as a social factor is exploited by the politicians for electoral gains, and we see use of politics in religion. Parties use religious symbols, values to incite the masses against a particular religious community. For Example, Demand for a  separate Sikh State of Khailstan was intended to divide people across religious lines.
c. Similarly, communal clashes between Hindus and Muslims from time to time are more politically motivated where political parties have pitted one group against another for electoral gains. Political Parties have used religious preaching, sacred symbols to divide the people, The best example is that of Rath Yatra in 1992 for Construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya which was intended to mobilize a particular community against another.
d. Religious differences rather have become a  source of conflict and tension in a society , when represented by political parties it may allow  minority religious groups to ventilate their grievances and voice their dissent but Political parties often tend to exploit issues based on  religion for narrow political gains to be used as vote bank during elections
e.  Further,
the common form of communalism  practiced everyday is based on certain customarily beliefs,  religious prejudices, stereotypes of religions communities,  belief of supremacy of one religion over the other religions. This belief of superiority of one religion becomes the root cause of conflict in the society threatening the secular edifice of a country. Such a feeling is further exploited in politics.

Such incidents raise serious misgivings about the secular status of our country and hampers the progress of our country.

Regards
