$4 x^{2} - \frac{2}{3} x - \frac{1}{16} = 0$

On comparing with the general equation $a x^{2} + b x + c = 0$ , we get

$a = 4, b = \frac{- 2}{3}, c = \frac{- 1}{16}$

$∴ D = b^{2} - 4 a c = (\frac{- 2}{3})^{2} - 4 (4) (\frac{- 1}{16)} = \frac{4}{9} + 1 = \frac{13}{9}$
