For some elements we have more than one no. of valencies , so which valency would we use while writing a chemical formula

1. Elements that generally show variable valencies are transition metals.

2. These transition metals like Fe, Cu, Co have more than one valency, out of which one is profound and other is less shown.

3. The valency that is generally more shown is the larger of the two.

Example: Fe has valencies +2 and +3 of which +3 is most common.
Cu has valencies +1 and +2 of which +2 is most common.
