give reason
a person pressed his ears against the railway track to find whether the train is approaching or not.

This is because sound can travel faster in solids. Thus , in a train approaching from far away, the vibrations would travel faster and thus when we press our ear against it , we can hear the sound of train approching from a distance.

because when the train will be approaching then the vibrations can be felt on the railway track from a distance.

Sound travels faster in solids than air. Railway track is made up of metal which is solid. When the person press his ears near railway track, the person becomes able to hear whether train is approaching or not through the railway track.

Most of what we would hear were vibrations caused by the wheels moving over the joints. Metal is an efficient conductor of sound and so the sound could propogate further in the rail than it would in air (and get around corners as well).

Hope it helps :)
