how are religious differences expressed in politics?

Dear Student,

Religious differences may lead to intolerance which in turn causes partisanship in politics. Acute ideological differences act like rifts between political parties and surface in form of vote bank politics and in extreme cases, riots too. For example, the Babri Masjid Case, The Godhra riots case etc. When state uses religion to gain power and pits one religious party against another, it leads to communal politics. India is witness to such development in 1947 when Pakistan was created  and various riots had taken place.
