How can you distinguish between ethylamine and diethylamime

Ethylamine is primary amine that gives positive carbylamine test.

Ethylamine gives a foul odour when heated with chloroform and alcoholic KOH.

Diethylamine is secondary amine that does not give carbylaimne test.

Reaction for ethylamine is:

C₂H₅NH₂ + CHCl₃ + 3 NaOH → C₂H₅NC + 3 NaCl + 3 H₂O

C₂H₅NC is foul smelling compound.
