How did the weather change on January 2? What were the consequences? (From Ch-2 Hornbill Class 11)

Dear student,

On the morning of January 2, there was a drastic change in the weather condition. The sea waves turned gigantic and the wind screamed. The consequence was that the narrator's boat rose to the top of each wave as it hit the boat. To slow the boat down, the narrator and his crew dropped the storm sail and positioned a heavy rope in a loop across the back part of the boat. Then they double lashed everything, wore oilskins and life jackets and attached themselves with lifelines.
