Carelessly disposed plastics may cause serious harm to the environment since plastics are virtually non-biodegradable and it takes thousands of years for it to degrade.
Short term effects are as follows:
a) Throwing away plastics in drains and sewers may clog the water body and affects the flow of water. This may lead to water pollution and leads to foul smell.
b) When animals such as cows consume plastics, it chokes them; the plastic may get stuck in the digestive tract of the animal. This lowers the appetite of the animal, and if left untreated may eventually cause the death of the animal.
