how do we recognise which word in the sentence is going to be the adverb?

Adverbs are words that modify verbs, adjectives and other adverbs.

For example: slowly, happily, etc.

To recognise the adverbs in a sentence, you need to first recognise the verbs and adjectives and then see whether they are being modified by some other words or not.

The easiest way to find out which word is an adverb in a given sentence is to first find the verb . To find a verb look in the sentence which word shows action. After we come to know which word is the verb look at the word after the verb . We do so because the word after the verb is usually the adverb as its describes the or tells us more about a  verb

Hopes this helps you!

Cheers !
