how does Air move

Dear student,Air moves by the process of convection. Along with this there is also horizontal movement of air.

We know that the earth's surface receives heat from the sun , gets heated and in turn radiates this heat.

When the air near the surface of earth receives heat from the surface, the air molecules expand. As a result, the air near to the surface of earth gets heated and it rises up, the cold air from above is denser and hence sinks down. This vertical movement of air is responsible for sudden rain with thunderstorms during hot summer evening.

Due to revolution of the Earth around the sun too, there is uneven heating of earth’s surface. This results in intense heating of few places. The air at these places becomes hot and rises up leaving a low pressure.

As a result the air from the neighbouring areas flow as winds and fills up this low pressure.

This gives us the global wind pattern too.
