how does doris taught lesson about behaviour?

Doris decided to accept what her mother said about Charlie Spence and instead chose to spend the evening with her family. Charlie Spence was buck-teethed and half-witted in her mother's opinion who would have preferred death rather than being out with him. As she tells her daughter, if she had not found someone better than Charlie Spence by Doris' age then she would have given herself up as a bad job. Doris' mother takes a tough line but it works in the end because her daughter finally learns a lesson.
