How does the environment affect the stomatal density

Dear student,
Please find below the answer:

Stomatal density is defined as the no. of stomata per unit area. It is affected by environmental variations in the amount of sunlight and water availability.

  • In dry atmospheric conditions, stomatal density is low. This helps in little loss of water through transpiration.
  • In moist atmospheric conditions, Stomatal density is high. This promotes the process of transpiration.

Hope this clears your doubt.
Regards.
