How is energy converted into ATP?

Dear student,
The conversion of energy from the glucose into ATP is done in a process called as oxidative phosphorylation which occurs in the mitochondria of the cell. The mitochondria contain an enzyme called as ATP synthase located in the inner membrane of the mitochondria and F1 particles present in the mitochondrial matrix. The breakdown of glucose starts a series of reactions in the cell. This is followed by the proton ion gradient in the inner mitochondrial membrane with along with the help of enzyme ATP synthase and F1 particles help in binding a phosphate group to the ADP(Adenosine Diphosphate) and thus form ATP(Adenosine triphosphate). Thus, the energy from glucose is converted to ATP by the help of the mitochondria. This can be easily understood with the help of a image shown below
