how is friction always acting in the opposite direction, than what we are moving it

The force of friction comes into action when any object starts moving in any direction in contact with the surface. Newton's third law says that every action has an equal and opposite reaction at the point of contact. So while walking when we push the ground backwards, the friction pushes us forward.

The rougher the surface the more the friction. And the smoother the surface the lesser the friction.
