How is mulberry silk obtained?

Dear Student,
Mulberry silk is obtained from the secretions of domesticated silkworms that feed on mulberry leaves.
To harvest silk, cocoons are first brewed to kill the pupae within. This is to avoid the silkworm breaking the silk if it started to emerge as a moth. The cocoon is then dunked in hot water to dissolve the sticky coating that binds the silk.
