How to calculate equivalent weight?

Dear Student,

The equivalent weight is equal to the molecular weight divided by the valence.

For example: The equivalent weight of H2SO4 is calculated as =Molecular weight/valence

The valence is valence refers to how many hydrogen atoms could bond with the compound.

Here Valence is 2 since there are 2 H in H2SO4

Thus Equivalent weight = 98/2

= 49.5

Hope it is clear to you.

Best Wishes!
