how to combine like and unlike terms

Like Terms: These are those terms that contain the same variables raised to the same power.

For example:
2x + 3y + 15 + 3x
Terms 2x and 3x are like terms so when we solve this sum we write:
2x + 3x +3y + 15
or 5x + 3y + 15

Similarly,
Terms are like terms so when we solve this sum we write:

Unlike Terms:These terms cannot be combined.

For example:
2x + 3y + 15z
Terms  are unlike terms so  we can't combine them.

  • -1

you cannot combine unlike terms

  • 0

Dear nishant singh,

iI will give you an example to understand it better. And first of all we cannot combine unlike terms.

EG: 2x^2 + 4x - 30 = 40

ANS: x^2+2x-15=20
x^2+2x-35=0
(x+7)(x-5)=0
x={-7,5}

  • -1
