होलिकोत्सवः सर्वजनानां कृते प्रियः उत्सवः अस्ति। अयमुत्सवः भारतस्य प्रसिद्धः उत्सवः अस्ति। पुरा हिरण्यकशिपुः नाम राजा अभवत्। तस्य पुत्र प्रहलादः ईश्वरभक्तः अभवत्। हिरण्यकशिपुः स्वपुत्रं मारयितुम् अयतत।

परन्तु प्रहलादः ईश्वर प्रसादेन सुरक्षितः आसीत्। हिरण्यकशिपुः स्वभगिनीं होलिकां प्रहलादस्य वधस्यकृते न्ययोजयत्। अग्नौ होलिका तु भस्मसात् अभवत् परं प्रहलादः सुरक्षित आसीत्। अन्ते च भगवान् नृसिंहः हिरण्यकशिपुम् अमारयत्। होलिका दहनमुदिश्य होलिकोत्सवः प्रारभत।

अयमुत्सवः फाल्गुनमासस्य पूर्णिमायां मन्यते। होलिकात्सवे जनाः परस्परं रंङ्गरञ्जितम जलं प्रक्षिपन्ति। जनाः उत्सवावसरे नृत्यन्ति गायन्ति च। आबालवृद्धाः हास्यव्यंग्य संलापान् कुर्वन्ति। अतः इदं पर्व मानवानां कृते अद्वितीयम् उपहारमस्ति।
