i. Which type of intermolecular forces exist between NaCl and H2O
ii. What will be the pressure of the gaseous mixture when 0.5 L of H2 at 0.8 bar and 2.0 L of O2 at 0.7 bar are introduced in a 1 L vessel at 27C?
The ions attracted to neutral H2O, leading to specific orientation of water molecules these forces are called charge-dipole forces.
2) To calculate the total pressure we will first calculate the individual pressures of each gas:
P1V1 = P2V2
0.5 x 0.8 = P2 x 1
P2 = 0.4 atm.
Similarly we can calculate for O2
2 x 0.7 = P2 X 1
= 1.4 atm.
Thus the total pressure will be 0.4 + 1.4 = 1.8 atm
