Identify two local industries which pollute the local water bodies by throwing untreated waste.

Water is a basic input in most of the chemical industries. The effluent or discharge from most of these chemical industries if released without treatment result in extreme toxicity. This not only renders the water unfit for drinking but also endangers aquatic life of water body. The major water polluting industries are: Tanneries or leather industries: These industries are responsible for release of very toxic metals like Chromium, Lead and Arsenic. Pulp and Paper industries: The bleaching agent used in these industries as well as other chemicals result in release of chemicals like Chromium. These industries also release a large amount of organic content such as lignin as well as organochlorides. Oil Refineries: Mostly because of accidental spills. Thermal pollution and release of ash from thermal power plants. Petrochemical industries are also a major water polluting industry. These all industries are mandated to treat their effluent before discharging into water bodies. However, many industries across the world flout these rules very often.
